Richard Oldham Young

May 13, 1955 – February 17, 2026

With profound love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Richard Oldham Young, age 70, who returned to his Heavenly home on February 17, 2026.

Richard was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Seth Hagman and Lois Oldham Young, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in a close-knit family alongside his siblings: Roger Young (deceased) (Elisa); Judy Halverson (deceased) (Brent (deceased)); Robert Young (Shelly); Catherine Young (Richard); and Betty Swenson (Richard (deceased)).

Richard shared a devoted and enduring love with his wife, Patricia Jean Young, who preceded him in death. Through life’s joys and challenges, he remained a loyal and dedicated husband for nearly 52 years of marriage. During the last two decades of Patricia’s physical ailments, Richard became her steadfast caregiver; patient, compassionate, and unwavering in his commitment, even when it was difficult. His devotion was quiet, constant, and profound.

He was a proud and loving father to Richard Bradley Young (Kandace) and Britaney Ann Young (Aaron). His legacy continues through his ten beloved grandchildren: Kelsey, Kayla, Corban, Trynity, Kylee, Dayton, Braxton, Ryker, Millana, and Casey. As well as six cherished great-grandchildren: Dimitri, Axle, Calvin, Ricky, Madison, and Phoenix.

Richard was a true man of all trades. A mechanic, carpenter, builder, electrician, and fixer of just about anything. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would learn until he mastered it. He loved working with his hands and took pride in honest, hard work. He would do any job for anyone in need, often putting others before himself. If someone called, he showed up. If something broke, he fixed it. If someone needed help, he gave it.

Outside of his work, Richard found joy and freedom in activity. In his prime years, He had a passion for playing tennis and loved the rhythm and competition of the game. He also cherished time on the slopes, snow skiing with the same determination and steady balance he carried into every part of his life. Outside of being on the court or the mountain, he embraced the challenge and the thrill of learning, improving, and pushing himself just a little further.

He was a provider in every sense of the word. He would go without so his family would not have to. He never abandoned his desire to serve. He was compassionate, protective, and fiercely loyal to those he loved. Beneath his strong exterior was an extremely tender heart, especially toward animals and the pets he adored.

Richard also carried a playful spirit. He loved card games, comedy movies, and delivering perfectly timed dad jokes that could make anyone groan and laugh at the same time. His humor lightened heavy days and filled his home with warmth.

A builder. A fixer. A learner. A helper. A jokester. A heart of gold.

Our dad didn’t just fix cars and build things, he built us. His work ethic. His willingness to learn. His helping heart. His humor. Those traits did not disappear when he left this world; they live on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were shaped by his steady example.

Though our hearts ache in their absence, we find comfort in believing that Richard has been reunited with his beloved wife, Patricia. After a lifetime of devotion, caring for her, loving her, standing beside her through every hardship; we trust there was a joyful reunion beyond this life. Together again, side by side, just as they were meant to be.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always honored.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to the compassionate staff at St. George Regional Hospital and Little Cottonwood Health and Rehab for their attentive care, patience, and support during Richard’s seven-month battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Your kindness, dignity, and dedication during a difficult season brought comfort not only to Richard, but to our entire family. We are profoundly grateful for the role you played in his care and well-being.
