Nephi Martinez Shurtleff

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nephi Martinez Shurtleff (aka Nico Falls), 48, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Nephi departed this life on May 28, 2023, following a courageous nine-month battle with brain cancer.

Born to Richard and Elaine Shurtleff on August 31, 1974, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nephi was the eldest of six children, and the first grandchild on both sides of his extended family. His independent and vibrant personality shone from the start. A social butterfly and gifted athlete, Nephi completed high school in Mililani, HI, before playing football at several smaller colleges on the mainland.

Upon leaving school, he embarked on a career in acting and producing. With credits including films MASS, Little Brother, and Do Not Watch. His travels across the country promoting his work allowed him to establish connections far and wide. Nephi's extraordinary ability to make friends is a trait for which he will be well remembered.

He leaves behind his parents, Richard and Elaine Shurtleff, his siblings, and their families: Nathan and Dasha Shurtleff (Naomi and Emma), Hyrum Shurtleff, Melissa and Chris Rudd (Vincent and Clyde DeLeon; Rilee and Bowen Rudd), Miranda and Seth Jenks (Owen, Penelope, Audrey, and Ava), and Joseph-Clyde Shurtleff and Maren Fischer (Madeline). He also leaves his grandmother, Carey Ward Shurtleff, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nephi was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jose Eloy Martinez and Clyde Orval Shurtleff, and his grandmother, Evelyn Helen Contreras.

A viewing and graveside service are set to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023. The viewing will be from 11-12:30pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 59 South 100 West, Parowan, UT 84761. The graveside service will be held at 1pm in Parowan City Cemetery, 834 Canyon Road, Parowan, UT 84761.
