Marge's Life Story

Marge was born in Wolf Point, Montana, on July 22, 1935. Her childhood from the time she was three was spent at the Montana State Children's Home. Although it was not an ideal situation, she learned to always look on the bright side and to be grateful for everything she had. Her unique childhood made her into the loving and caring woman she became.

When Marge turned 16, she moved to New Jersey to live with her mother and stepfather. While in New Jersey, she traveled with them on the carnival circuit, working as a ticket taker.

After about a year of traveling for her job, she found her way back west with her brother Rocky. He talked her into going to Utah with him to see his Navy buddy. She always felt her life never truly began until she made it to Utah. It all started when a handsome, blue-eyed cowboy opened the door of a pickup she was leaning against. She fell right into his arms, and he greeted her with a "boy howdy!" It was love at first sight.

Marge and Don were married in Las Vegas in June of 1953. They had their first son, Duff, and later had Ted. Marge was not your typical sheep rancher's wife. She went out to the herd with the boys the first few years and raised them in a sheep camp alongside Don.

They later had a baby girl, Becky. From then on, Marge lived at the ranch. She was a devoted rancher's wife and mother. She did chores, raised the kids, went to baseball games and rodeos, and always made sure there was freshly baked bread and homemade jam for her family and the many friends who loved to visit the ranch. Feeding people was always her love language. There was absolutely no way you would leave her house without a full belly--anything from expertly cooked lamb to a simple sandwich or cup of coffee. People seemed to gravitate toward her and her family. They even gained a couple of bonus sons.

After leaving the ranch, they moved a few times and eventually ended up starting a successful dirt business. With every move and new adventure, they made lifelong friends along the way. During the dirt business years, there was never a morning where the kitchen wasn't full of friends. Marge always made sure fresh coffee was on hand for anyone who came over to start their day.

Don and Marge retired and eventually moved to Beaver Dam, Arizona. While there, they enjoyed bingo, betting on horses, and being around friends and family.

Aside from being the world's best cook, Marge was also skilled in needlepoint, cross-stitch, quilt making, and she would never turn down a game of cribbage. Marge was selfless and thoughtful. She never missed sending out birthday cards or letters to those she loved.

Marge lived a life full of good food, good coffee, great friends, and so much love and laughter. She left an unforgettable legacy of how to care for others and how to deeply fall in love. She will be missed dearly, but we all know she has had the best reunion with her sweetheart.

Marge is survived by her children Duff (Pam) Berg, Ted Berg (Lee), and Becky Berg (Sandy); her bonus boys Blaine (Caralee) Boren and Ronnie (Freida) Johnson; grandchildren Travis Berg (Candice), Buz Berg, Dillon Berg, Lacie Doman (Jason), Rikki Felshaw (Paul); and five great-grandchildren.
