Jacob Robert Barney
June 13, 1992 – June 4, 2026
Jacob Robert Barney, age 33, passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2026, in Cedar City, Utah, just days before his 34th birthday.
Jacob was born on June 13, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Quiet and reserved by nature, he often had the most to say with those he loved and trusted. He possessed a gentle spirit and a kind heart, without a mean or stubborn bone in his body. Those fortunate enough to know him well experienced his thoughtful conversations, dark humor, and unwavering loyalty.
For nearly four years, Jacob worked as a clerk and cashier for Maverik, where he found his niche working the night shift. He enjoyed the routine, the familiar faces, and took pride in doing his job well. Hired on his birthday, he was only days shy of reaching his four-year anniversary with the company.
Jacob found joy in gaming, movies, and collecting action figures. He loved Donkey Kong, Mario, Scooby-Doo, Jurassic Park, and The Lord of the Rings, and took pleasure in surrounding himself with the characters and stories that brought him comfort and happiness. Since the age of eight, his best friend, Aaron Lewis, shared many of these passions and stood by his side through childhood and adulthood alike. In later years, Scott Munford joined their close-knit circle, completing a trio bonded by friendship, shared interests, and countless memories.
Jacob was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carolyn Forshee.
He is survived by his grandparents, Robert and Barbara Barney; his siblings, Abbey and Noah Forshee; his aunts and uncles, Deborah Kleinman, John Barney, Kevin Barney, Emily Torres, and Erin Garate; his cousin, Kailey Bowles, with whom he shared a home, whose love and courageous efforts to save him in his final moments will never be forgotten; his lifelong brother from another mother, Aaron Lewis; dear friend, Scott Munford; and many extended family members, coworkers, and friends who will miss his quiet presence and gentle heart.
Jacob’s life reminds us that a quiet presence can leave a lasting impact. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his loyalty, his passions, and the comfort of simply being himself. Though his departure came far too soon, those who loved him carry forward the laughter, conversations, and memories they shared with him.
A private family/friends gathering will be held to celebrate Jacob’s life to be announced.
Jacob was not one to seek the spotlight, but those who knew his sense of humor can almost hear him requesting that all major life events be accompanied by at least a two-week notice.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
